Dental extractions involve removing the tooth from its original position in the jaw. Extractions may be necessary due to a tooth being badly damaged, infected, decaying or suffering other forms of trauma. There are two main types of extractions, influenced by the complexity of the procedure: simple extraction and surgical extraction. Simple extractions involve removing visible teeth, whilst surgical extractions are more complicated, involving a tooth that is impacted inside the jaw and cannot be removed without making an incision.
